The LSI MegaRAID LSIiBBU09 product is an intelligent battery backup unit (iBBU) based on Lithium ion (LiON) battery cell technology. The LSIiBBU09 unit protects the integrity of the cached data on a MegaRAID RAID controller for up to 48 hours in case of a complete AC power failure or a brief power outage. You can connect the LSIiBBU09 unit either directly or remotely to your RAID controller, depending on which RAID controller you have. LSI provides a family of MegaRAID iBBUs for use with its high-performance MegaRAID RAID controllers. The LSI MegaRAID iBBUs provide an inexpensive alternative to using an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and a second level of fault tolerance when used with a UPS.

This guide describes the MegaRAID SAS 9266-4i RAID controller, the MegaRAID SAS 9266-8i RAID controller, and the related components (sold separately), which include the LSICVM01 CacheVault Kit and the intelligent Battery Backup Unit 09 (LSIiBBU09). The MegaRAID SAS 9266-8i RAID controller is a PCI Express, low-profile RAID controller that offers a 6-Gb/s transfer rate, and controls eight internal SAS+SATA ports through two SFF-8087 mini SAS 4i internal connectors. The MegaRAID SAS 9266-4i RAID controller is a PCI Express, low-profile RAID controller that offers a 6-Gb/s transfer rate, and controls four internal SAS+SATA ports through one SFF-8087 mini SAS 4i internal connectors. You can connect the CacheVault Flash Module 02 (CVFM02) directly to your MegaRAID 9266 RAID controller, or the LSIiBBU09 unit either directly or remotely to RAID controller. These products provide data protection in case of loss of power or server failure.

The Storage Command Line Tool (StorCLI) is a new management application designed for MegaRAID products.

This guide describes the CVPM02 module and explains how to install the module on a remote mount board. In addition, it documents how to connect the module to a CacheVault Flash Module 02 (CVFM02) on the MegaRAID SAS 9266-8i RAID controller. The remote CVPM02 module provides the power to offload cached data from the DRAM to the nonvolatile FLASH memory on the CacheVault Flash Module (CVFM) if a power failure or outage occurs. The DRAM contents are restored to the CVFM module the next time the RAID controller is powered. Cached data can then be written to the storage devices.

This guide describes the CVFM02 module and explains how to attach the module directly to the MegaRAID SAS 9266-4i RAID controller and the MegaRAID SAS 9266-8i RAID controller. In addition, this guide documents how to connect the CVFM02 module by cable to a CacheVault Power Module 02 (CVPM02) module that is mounted on a remote mount board. The CVFM02 module is a USB flash module that provides cache offload capability to protect cached data in case of host power loss or server failure. The CVFM02 module is part of the CacheVault Module Kit LSICVM01, which also includes a CVPM02 module, a clip, and a cable. The CVFM02 module attaches directly to the RAID controller, and then it connects by cable to a remotely located CVPM02 module. The CVPM02 module is a super-capacitor pack that provides power for the backup of your data.
