Network OEM developers gain flexibility of embedded Linux using latest tools, kernel and hardware support
SAN JOSE, Calif., February 20, 2014 – LSI Corporation (NASDAQ: LSI) today announced its Axxia® multicore family of network communication processors and accelerators now include big endian BE8 mode support for the latest version of Wind River Linux. The availability of big endian support provides software developers with greater flexibility and choice in their hardware options.
LSI Axxia communication processors use ARM® Cortex-A15 cores that are designed to deliver both increased performance and power efficiency. Wind River Linux 6 includes expanded hardware support for these latest ARM 32 and 64 bit processors. Built on the Yocto Project open source development infrastructure, Wind River Linux 6 also uses the latest Linux kernel to ensure customers have commercially supported access to the newest advancements from the open source community.
“LSI Axxia networking solutions are designed to ensure the highest levels of performance and efficiency, as well as to offer flexibility and ease of system integration,” said Noy Kucuk, vice president of marketing, Networking Solutions Group at LSI. “Wind River Linux provides comprehensive open source tools and features that, when combined with the LSI Axxia development kit, offer reduced TCO while speeding time-to-market delivery for network OEMs.”
“We have long enjoyed a strong collaboration with LSI, and their work to enhance the Axxia multicore family of processors with Wind River Linux will further meet customer needs for a reliable software foundation designed for the carrier grade rigors of a changing network,” said Mike Langlois, general manager of networking and communications at Wind River. “Wind River Linux delivers the latest open source innovations and high interoperability resulting from Yocto Project Compatibility. Combined with our global support and long-term maintenance, our carrier grade Wind River Linux provides customers with the first step towards adding on other valuable step functions such as intelligence via deep packet inspection (DPI) and virtualization capabilities.”
LSI provides a comprehensive suite of production-quality wireless application enablement software for its Axxia family of processors and accelerators. LSI’s optimized, high-performance layer two through four software packages provide a complete wireless transport solution for networking OEMs, eliminating the need to invest in data plane software development. The LSI Axxia platform is ideal for OEMs to meet accelerated time-to-market goals and efficiently leverage their development resources for emerging heterogeneous network architectures.
LSI will showcase its portfolio of networking acceleration solutions at Hall 7 - Stand 7E21 at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, February 24-27.
“Small cells are beneficial for operating networks in denser areas and with higher-performing mobile devices and applications,” said Abhi Dugar, research manager, IDC. “The demonstration from LSI, Quantenna and SAI Technology addresses a need for improved convergence of Wi-Fi and LTE so that operators can reduce costs and ease system management.”
