Pseudowire Emulation Edge-to-Edge
  • Protect investments in Frame Relay, Asynchronous Transfer Mode, and TDM services
  • Deliver a highly efficient solution for wireless backhaul, MSPP, DSLAM, Ethernet switches, and PON
  • Provide differential, buffer adaptive, or synchronous timing

Pseudowire Emulation Edge-to-Edge (PWE3), a mechanism that re-creates the characteristics of a Layer 1 or Layer 2 circuit service, is mandatory for carriers who need a converged network that delivers multiple services. The LSI PWE3 solution offers a variety of configurations and will fit convenient form factors to integrate with aggregation equipment in applications such as wireless backhaul, MSPP, DSLAM, Routers, and PON. It provides a cost-effective solution that preserves existing infrastructure investments, allows for a gradual technology migration, and delivers standards-based interoperability.

The LSI PWE3 solution provides differential, buffer adaptive, or synchronous timing and complies with standards G.823, G.824, and G.8261.  At the heart of the solution is an LSI Link Layer Processor (LLP) or link communication processor (LCP) for multiservice protocol processing. An APP3300 or ACP communication processor provide advanced packet classification, QoS, and bandwidth management.

Key features include:

  • Flexible, scalable, and user programmable PWE3 solution
  • Gigabit Ethernet interface for data traffic
  • Programmable support for IPv4, IPv6, MPLS, IP, and Ethernet
  • Support of 48-byte to 1536-byte packets
  • Synchronous, buffer-adaptive (including IEEE 1588), and differential clocking that is configurable per link
  • TDM Interface support of T1, E1, STS-1/12, STM-1/4, DS3, OC-3/12
  • Support of DS1/E1 circuit emulation mapping of IETF RFC4553 (SAToP) and RFC5086 (CESoPSN)
  • Compliance with Ethernet timing requirements of ITU-T G.8261 and MEF MEF-8 and MEF-18
  • Support of mobile backhaul timing applications per ETSI 3GPP specifications and multiple protocol mappings
  • Simultaneous multi-protocol support (IMA, HDLC, ML-PPP, AAL1, SAToP, CESoP), enabling one platform at low development cost
