Today, SAS is the most prevalent implementation of the SCSI protocol and is found in most storage and server systems. One of the key advantages of SAS is its ability to be a viable platform for ongoing storage innovation – for example, using SAS as a storage area network (SAN).
The LSI SAS Switch allows you to quickly and easily architect high-performance SAS SANs without adding the significant cost and complexity of other technologies such as iSCSI and Fibre Channel. With the SAS Switch, multiple servers can connect to one or more independent external storage systems, enabling more efficient “scaling out” of both storage and servers in data centers and other large storage installations – just like a SAN. It offers high performance – up to 24GB/s per port while allowing the connection of up to 1000 devices. What's more, with our new active cables, the SAS Switch can now connect devices up to 25 meters away.
